NEVADA, MO--- Nevada Regional Medical Center is now the hospital with the "Best Overall Improvement." The hospital won the award for quality enhancement. CEO Judy Feuquay says it all started with physician recruitment.

"Physicians are key to everything we do," state Feuquay.

Feuquay says physician retention can be a challenge in rural community.

"You have to find a good match, a physician and their family too. They have to want to come to a small community."

Feuquay also says adding 8 physicians is their greatest improvement. The physicians have allowed the hospital to expand their services and improve their care quality. Ultimately becoming top performer in the revenue category.

"One thing follows the other. If you have the services and you have the doctors, then expect your revenue will follow," says Feuquay.

Hospital officials say added special services like the Oncology Department, helps keep residents.

"It is such a hardship for them to get into their vehicles and travel an hour to have chemotherapy treatments," states Sean Gravely, General Internist.

Feuquy says their outpatient care and emergency visits have seen an overall increase in patient services.

"We work with visiting doctor who orders those services and work with him here so our patients and our community don't have to travel to get that service. That's a good thing," says Feuquy.

The recognition was earned by making a 1.6 million dollar improvement in revenue.
