WEBB CITY, MO--- The fire started around 4:30am at a home on the corner of First and Washington. Twenty emergency responders from Webb City, Oronogo, and Carterville fire departments worked for nearly two hours to put out the blaze. A man and his child were home at the time of the fire, both were able to get out without injuries. Webb City Fire Chief Andrew Roughton says they are still determining exactly what sparked the fire.

Roughton says, "It appears that it started in the center of the house in a utility room where the furnace was housed. The occupant and his child were home at the time of the fire. They were able to wake up, noticed the smell of the smoke, got his child and was able to get out safely."

Both residents are currently staying with relatives until they can get back in their home.
