GALENA -- Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt has asked the state supreme court for help resolving the dispute over school financing. Last month, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled funding for public schools was unconstitutionally low. Local school administrators say this is a promising turn of events, and that it is important to remember students will be the ones impacted by any decision.

"It's about the kids," says Galena school district superintendent Brian Smith. "The best resource we have in Kansas, or any state, are our children and our youth, because they're our future. That's an area that's an area that we have to focus on good investments."

No local schools were represented in the lawsuit against the state.
