CARTHAGE, MO.--- Carthage City Council members approved the purchase of a new "Welcome To Carthage" sign. It will be placed on the northeast corner of Oak and Garrison, and serve as a guide to the downtown area.

The sign will be a little different than the current one at the round-about on the south end of town. The stone sign will have a colored maple leaf and Route 66 logo.

"We wanted to come up with something that would brand. So, when people came to town, if they saw this sign anywhere, they would know it's Carthage and that's why we're focused on the maple leafs," says Janet Stafford, Vision Carthage Committee.

The Carthage Vision Committee hopes to eventually have the signs at every entrance to the city. They hope to have the first sign installed around May.
