VINITA, OK--- The Vinita Police Department has requested the OSBI's assistance with a police-involved shooting that occured overnight. Around 3:30am, OSBI was notified of an incident half mile north of the HWY 69 and HWY 66 junction.

Two Vinta officers and an officer from the Big Cabin Police Department initiated a pursuit with a vehicle. That vehicle traveled down a dead end road. The suspect then turned the vehicle around and drove toward officers. Officers fired at the suspect. Michael O'Mara, 24, of Wichita, KS, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. O'Mara was then booked into Craig County Jail on a complaint of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
