ANDERSON, MO--- Former users say there are two major kinds. Incense, which is being used as a synthetic marijuana and bath salts, which are being used as a synthetic form of meth. Legislators have outlawed the items numerous times but producers continue to change the chemical compounds, keeping them legal. Medical experts say the alternative drugs can cause coronary spasms that reduce blood flow to the heart, which can lead to death.
Chris Bridgeman started using synthetic drugs when he was sixteen years old. Now that he is clean, he recalls how close to death he came. The alternative drugs go by a number of different names including Extreme, Angel, Pump It, and Syn.
