DUQUESNE, MO - The city received 150 weather radios, which are being given away to Duquesne residents living within the tornado zone. In order to get one you need to go to city hall with your I.D. and a piece of mail to verify your address.

A grant from the United Way paid for part of the cost, an additional $1,500 came from the city's donation fund

"I think it's reassuring to residents and also, they are programmed for just Jasper and Newton counties," said Terry Ingram, City Clerk. "I think the citizens will use them more because if they are just general radios people seem to turn them off because it's too noisy if it picks up other counties," she added.

City officials hope to purchase 300 additional radios for Duquesne residents living outside the tornado zone in the near future.
