JOPLIN, MO -- In just 6 weeks, the group organized nearly 65,000 volunteers, and cleared debris from more than 750 properties. Last October, Samaritan's Purse arranged for more than 500 volunteers with construction experience to help repair, or rebuild, more than 20 homes. Samaritan's Purse Case Manager Stephen Bergen says it's part of their mission to help after disaster strikes. "We literally build houses right on the same site where they're old house was." Bergen explains. "And so for us, it's reestablishing the community, and it's one family at a time."
In total, volunteers with Samaritan's Purse have provided more than 80,000 hours of service since the tornado.
