JOPLIN, MO - Some homeowners with incomplete insurance claims related to the May 22nd tornado have just days left to turn in their paperwork. The deadline varies by insurance company, but many policies contain 12-month deadlines, which is 11 days away. State officials say there is a lot of money at stake for people who don't submit insurance paperwork on time.
"To be fully reimbursed for the property that you have had to replace, you need to make sure all of your claim paperwork is submitted by that deadline," said Travis Ford, Spokesman with the Missouri Department of Insurance. "Otherwise you may get a smaller payment," he added.
Insurance companies have paid more than $1.4 billion in claims related to last year's tornado. A number experts expect to approach 2 billion by the time all claims are settled.
