JOPLIN, MO.--- Every 3rd Thursday of each month, children gather with certified therapy dogs at the Joplin Public Library, to read their favorite books. With school back in session, librarians have started to see the number of attendees dwindle, so they want to remind parents this service is still available for children K through 5. The head children's librarian say she has seen and heard many stories of reading improvement from children who attend regularly.

"His mom came back like the next month or the next 2 months and said that he had really been trying to learn how to read at home. Now, he's a good reader. He still comes to the Dog Day Program and it's been probably 3 years," states Jeana Gockly, Children's Librarian.

If you and your child would like to attend, the next Dog Day Afternoom is October 16th at 4 p.m.
