CARTHAGE, MO.--- Carthage firefighters add a state of the art truck to their fleet. This truck will be the department's primary fire engine to respond to calls. It went into service last week and has already been used on a structure fire. The vehicle has more available seats in the cab as well as additional air packs for crews, allowing everyone to have one when they arrive on scene. The fire captain says one of the biggest features is that their extrication tools, like spreaders and cutters used for car wrecks, are already hooked up to the back of the vehicle. Before, crews had to connect them to hoses before they could be used on scene.

"They're ready to go. They're already plugged in to the power unit. All we have to do is fire the power unit up and just go straight to the scene we don't have to set there and plug all of our hoses in," states Ryan Huntley, Carthage Fire Department Captain.

The truck and its equipment cost $459,000 and the department was able to purchase it  with funds from the city's fire tax.
