CARTHAGE, MO.--- Jasper County commissioners approved an overall 2013 county budget of $27.8 million at this morning's meeting. The auditor expects $14 and half million in general revenue.

That is almost $400,000 less than last year, a drop connected to a state required reduction in the property tax levy. To offset that, the new budget calls for $200,000 spending cut.

"We ended up with a million and half dollars and it's going to take a little over $1.3 million to fund this budget, so we'll have about a $255,000 cushion but that's all we have," states Richard Webster, Jasper County Auditor.

Since 2013 is not an election year, the county auditor says Jasper County will save $255,000 compared to election expenses last year.
