JOPLIN, MO.--- The Children's Haven held a public birthday reception earlier this evening. Children's Haven provides a temporary home to children ages birth through 17 years whose families are experiencing a crisis.

Over the past 10 years, the center has served thousands of kids, up to 12 at a time. Now they're expanding, doubling the amount of kids they can serve.

"We're at this point. Even building a house next door so that we can double the amount of children who stay with us will go from 12 to 24. The need is that great in southwest Missouri," says Stephanie Theis, Children's Haven Executive Director.

Theis says the joy for her has been when families who have used the center come back and say how Children's Haven helped them.
