CARTHAGE, MO.---- Randee Kaiser will be making last minute preparations before he takes his new role as Jasper County Sheriff on January 1st.
"I've been in this department since it opened. I have mostly been cleaning out my locker and cleaning out my desk and getting the stuff down off my walls, saying my goodbyes," states Randee Kaiser, Jasper Co. Sheriff-Elect.
Lieutenant Bill Hawkins has been training to take over Kaiser's current role as captain.
"I've spent a lot of time talking to him about what to expect in that position and the things he should look for over the next coming years," states Kaiser.
Chief of Police Greg Dagnan says they began preparing for the transition after the primary election.
"At that point, we knew that it was smart for us to identify people who would move up in the ranks and so conversations started then," states Greg Dagnan, Chief of Police.
Come January, there will be other promotions and changes within the department. There will be a new investigations lieutenant, night shift commander, and school resource officer.
"There was probably about 2 weeks per person just one-on-one with the individual that they were going to take their job, and of course, there have been a lot of question and answer sessions after that," states Dagnan.
With less than a week left in the department, Kaiser says he'll miss the camaraderie with those he works with the most.
"I'll miss the work of city police work but at the same time I'm very excited and looking forward to the new opportunities that are set forth for me," says Kaiser.
Kaiser will be sworn in as sheriff on Friday. He along with the other officers will take over their new positions on January 1st. Dagan says he will also hire a new patrol officer once the transitions are made.
