PARSONS, KS.--- Today, Parsons Police Officers started a campaign letting residents know about the high number of break ins. Nearly 20 people reported the crime between Christmas day and yesterday. None of the cars were locked.
Officers say the crooks only got away with something twice, stealing a GPS and wallet.

"It's more or less, the opportunists. They're lifting handles up, looking through windows to see how they can get away with it without setting off an alarm," says Chris Cummins, Parsons Police Officer.
Police say don't leave valuable items in your car. Officers say car break ins spike during holidays, almost 30 vehicles were broken into during Thanksgiving week in Parsons.
They say this type of crime happens all throughout the year. Officers urge people to get in the habit of locking their doors as soon as they get out of the car.
