PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg State University partnered with the Kansas National Guard and Joplin Association for the Blind to host the first "Freeze Your Fanny 5k" Saturday. The race began at 9AM in front of Weede gymnasium, circled the campus and ended back in front of the gym. About 65 people registered for the Fun. Organizers say the goal was to raise awareness to help vision impaired people in the community.

"It's very important for people to know that there are blind people in our community, or low vision people in their community," says SGT D.J. Perry with the National Guard. "Part of the race is to get that word out. The other part of the race is to raise money to help those students in our school district for those technology devices they need to stay inline with their age groups or to excel."

One-hundred percent of the proceeds raised from the race will go to the Joplin Association for the Blind.
