PITTSBURG, KS.--- Crews will have to remove asbestos from the Economy Inn and Suites in Pittsburg before tearing it down. The contractor in charge of the project is in the process of hiring an asbestos removal firm.

It's expected to take 90 days for the entire process. The hotel closed in February of last year after strong straight line winds severely damaged the building.

"It's humorously been called the Blue Tarp Hotel, so we'll be happy to get those out of there and make way for future developments," said Bill Beasley, Pittsburg Public Works Director.

Pittsburg city workers say they are working with the owners of Economy Inn and Suites to redevelop the site for another hotel.
