NEOSHO -- Fire fighters responded to more than 2,000 calls last year, up from about 1,300 in 2011. In 2010 fire fighters responded to less than 1,200. Authorities attribute the increase to a large number of medical emergencies, and the dry conditions over the course of the year. The number of EMS, mutual aid and hazardous response calls all went up from 2011. The fire department is at full staff with 32 workers. Neosho city leaders say the record number of responses show that those employees are the right people for the job.
