breaking news
When I spoke with Southern Basketball players Terry Shumpert and Guaya Santiago earlier this week, they both talked about the importance of posting a solid record during this stretch with 4 games in seven days. With a win over Panhandle State tonight, the Lions would finish 3-1 during that time frame. We head to Legget and Platt for the annual Chris Tucker Memorial Classic, where Chris Tucker`s family was on hand. Early on, Terry Shumpert with the drive and kickout to Jamar Warren who buries the triple as the Lions grab the one point lead. Jamar was hot out of the gate thanks in part to his teammates. This time he gets the nice no look pass from Guaya Santiago, and Warren gets nasty on the finish. Blake Bard, also chalking up some dimes with a nice entry pass to Warren who does the rest, and Southern rolls tonight downing Panhandle State, 91-59. Guaya Santiago led the way with 17 points.

In the early game at Legget and Platt, Pitt State tangles with a struggling Bacone team. We pick things up in the second half, when Cedric Brooks drives the lane uncontested and finishes with the lay-in as Pitt State moves ahead by 40. Then Brooks went on the break with the alley oop to Jai Prodia. Prodia fouled hard, but made the basket anyway. Then Brooks dialed in with the strong finish. The reserve team got plenty of action tonight. Oviver Vot with the nice feed to the freshman Wes Thornton, who powered it up for two. Pitt State Rolls tonight with a 52-point win over Bacone. The final score 89-37.
