JACKSON`S 37 LEAD WAY FOR GORILLAS

January 29, 2005 Mule Skinner Blues: #19 Pitt State Knifes #10 CMSU, 95-86 PITTSBURG -- Eddie Jackson hit a school record nine 3-pointers and scored 37 points to lead 19th-ranked Pittsburg State University to a 95-86 victory over 10th-ranked Central Missouri State University Saturday (Jan. 29) at John Lance Arena. The Gorillas (15-4, 6-4 MIAA) led by as many as 24 points in the second half against the Mules (15-4, 8-2 MIAA) who fell out of sole possession of first place in the conference standings. CMSU fought back to get within 73-61 witn 7:55 to play, but PSU scored the next five points including Jacksons record-breaking trey with 6:40 to go. Jackson scored 22 of his game-high points, on 8 of 11 shooting, in the first half to help stake the Gorillas to a 47-31 lead at the break. His final basket, a leaner in the paint with 3:14 to play in the game, helped him eclipse 1,000 points in just his 48 career game at PSU (1,001, 20.9 ppg). Pitt State made 57.1 percent of its shots from the field in the second half (16 of 28) and finished the game .541 from the floor (33 of 61). The Gorillas also outrebounded the Mules, who converted 48.3 percent of their shots (28 of 58), 39-29 on the night. Jason Taylor added 19 points and Daniel Blair finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Gorillas, with 10 points and eight rebounds coming in 17 minutes of action in the final stanza. CMSU got 49 points from its backcourt tandem of Michael Hicks and Corey Brown. Hicks led the way with 25. Mike Suggs also had 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Mules, who dropped into a tie atop the MIAA standings with Washburn University (17-4, 8-2 MIAA), a 72-66 winner over Missouri Western State College Saturday at St. Joseph, Mo.
