Scrivners Free Throws Lift Pitt State to 56-55 Victory
PITTSBURG -- Kami Scrivner hit two free throws with 7.8 seconds to play to lift Pittsburg State University to a 56-55 victory over Missouri Western State College Saturday (Feb. 12) at John Lance Arena.
Pitt State (16-7, 8-5 MIAA) trailed by six points, 54-48, with 4:41 to play in the game, but the Gorillas outscored Northwest (12-13, 5-9 MIAA) 9-2 down the stretch.
Scrivner, who finished with a game-high 20 points, collected a loose ball rebound after Megan Ripperton misfired on a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to play in the game. Scrivner added a game-high nine rebounds in the game, as Pitt State outrebounded Northwest 51-36 including a 17-9 margin on the offensive glass.
Janelle Klein added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Gorillas.
Mandi Schumacher scored a career-high 19 points for Northwest, making 9 of 10 shots from the field. Meghan Blay, who misfired on a potential game-winning shot with two seconds to play, added 11 points.
