Royals swept by Mariners

KANSAS CITY -- Wilson Valdez snapped a fourth-inning tie with a two-run double to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 10-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium. The Mariners, who swept the three-game series and improved to 5-4, broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. After Valdez`s two-run double, Jeremy Reed came through with a three-run double that made it 7-2. Richie Sexson drove in the final three Seattle runs with a double and two-run homer. Seattle starter Jamie Moyer delivered his third consecutive encouraging outing while running his record to 2-0. Moyer allowed two runs on nine hits through seven innings. Kansas City starter Denny Bautista, who battled control problems and left after 3 1/3 innings, was charged with six earned runs. The Mariners, who were 25-55 on the road last year and endured a 15-game road losing streak at one juncture, are 3-0 on the road in 2005. Robert Falkoff is a reporter for MLB.com.
