Race Runs Wild in Pitt States 600th All-Time Victory KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- Junior tailback Germaine Race rushed for a career-high 305 yards and three touchdowns to lead 18th-ranked Pittsburg State University to a one-sided 66-14 victory over Truman State University Saturday (Oct. 22). Pitt State became the first NCAA Division II football program to reach its 600th victory. The Gorillas have compiled a 600-304-48 record in 98 seasons of intercollegiate play. Race rushed for the sixth-highest single-game total in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association history in the game. He also eclipsed Pitt States regular season single-game rushing mark of 273 yards set by Justin Johnson in 1997. The Gorillas, who improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA, fell behind 7-0 when the Bulldogs (1-8, 0-7 MIAA) returned the opening kickoff to the PSU 48 and scored three plays later. Pitt State needed only two minutes and three seconds to knot the score at 7-7 on Races 10-yard run though, and the Gorillas scored 52 unanswered points en route to the lopsided win. Race added touchdown runs of 33 and 3 yards in the game. The Warrensburg, Mo., native carried the ball just 23 times, averaging 13.3 yards per carry. He moved into second place on PSUs career rushing chart with 4,727 yards, climbing to fourth-place on the MIAAs elite rushing list. Pitt State piled up 485 rushing yards in the game, on 55 carries, averaging 8.8 yards per carry. It marked the Gorillas 12th-best rushing day all-time and the most cumulative yards since PSU piled up 525 rushing yards in a landslide win against Washburn University last year. PSU finished with 689 total yards in the game. Senior quarterback Andy Majors compiled 256 yards of total offense in the game. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 180 yards and rushed 10 times for 76 yards and two TDs. The Pitt State defense, which surrendered 518 total yards and 301 rushing yards in a 70-38 win against Southwest Baptist University last week, rebounded to allow just 196 total yards against the Bulldogs, including a paltry 66 rushing yards (on 23 carries). Senior linebacker Chris Jaax returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown -- one of three Pitt State thefts in the game. He added six tackles (two solo) and one pass breakup in the contest.
