Pitt State Scores Another Classic, 56-35, Over Northwest KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pittsburg State University jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, scored on its first five possessions of the game and rolled to a 56-35 victory over Northwest Missouri State University Saturday (Oct. 29) before 21,044 fans in The Fall Classic at Arrowhead IV. The 14th-ranked Gorillas (8-2, 6-1 MIAA) claimed sole possession of second place in the MIAA standings and strengthened their NCAA-II playoffs hopes with the convincing win over the 16th-ranked Bearcats (6-3, 5-2 MIAA). Quarterback Andy Majors completed 15 of 21 passes for 228 yards and three TDs, and tailback Germaine Race rushed 23 times for 180 yards and a pair of scores to lead the high-powered Pitt State offense, which finished with 520 total yards in the game. The Gorillas built a 42-14 halftime advantage in the game. Free safety Jeremy Neville returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown with 4:08 to play in the first half to extend Pitt States 35-14 lead to 28 points. Neville finished the game with 11 tackles (seven solo) and two pass breakups. Wide receiver Bryan Pray caught five passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns for the Gorillas. He caught a 52-yard TD pass with 33 seconds to play in the first quarter and added a 20-yard scoring catch with 48 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Eric Clawson caught the Gorillas remaining TD pass, staking Pitt State to a 7-0 lead with an 18-yard grab on PSUs first offensive series.
