Emergency Cost Share Program Helps Farmers with Water Supply

JEFFERSON CITY, MO--- Governor Jay Nixon established the program to provide water for Missouri farmers and livestock producers suffering from the drought. The deadline to recieve assistance was Monday, August 6th.

"Agriculture is the backbone of Missouri's economy, and we are working quickly to provide emergency relief for farmers and producers who are facing critical water shortages as a result of this historic drought," says Gov. Nixon. "This emergency program is helping our livestock producers and farmers protect their livelihood and uphold a vital pillar of our economy."

More than $18.7 million in assistance went out to Missouri farmers. The programs covers 90% of the cost to dig, deepen, or create a well. Funding came from reserve funds provided by the state soil and water districts commission and some state resources.
