In Joplin, Missouri Southern prevailed in another hard-fought game 27-21 over Northeastern State. The Lions stuck to their formula of controlling the clock and forcing some key turnovers. Senior quarterback Kellen Cox rushed for 108 and a touchdown. Running back Ne'Ronte Threatt added two touchdowns as well.
As for Saturday's high school action, Carl Junction picked up their first win of the year with a 36-0 win over East Newton. Ash Grove defeated Diamond 36-14.
And amidst all this great football, there was still high school softball in the four states. Webb City's young Cardinal team defeated the Joplin Eagles 6-2. Emily Harris cranked a three-run homer in the 5th inning to put Webb City into the driver seat for good.
