In a game that Pittsburg State players and coaches alike referred to as a must-win situation, the Gorillas suffered their worst homecoming loss ever. In front of a record crowd, 16th ranked Missouri Western piled on 56 unanswered points in a 63-14 beat down at Carnie Smith Stadium.

Meanwhile in Joplin, the Lions struggled to sustain much offense against 5th ranked Northwest Missouri State. MoSo made it 14-7 on a short Kellen Cox TD in the 2nd quarter, but that's as close as it got. On bright the side for the Lions, senior defensive tackle Brandon Williams surpassed the school's all-time sack record.
