JOPLIN, MO.--- Kinsey Schultz is very popular online. She's got 12 thousand friends. That's because she created the Joplin Give & Take group on Facebook. It's like a garage sale, only you don't have to leave your house. She was amazed how popular the site has become.
"Oh yes, when I originally started, I thought maybe 50 people, 12,000 later," states Kinsey Schultz.
She started the site back in January and she estimates that there have been over 10 thousand items sold. Basically you post what you have for sale, and then meet in Joplin to exchange it. She says she was tired of Craigs List and Ebay.
"I had done Craig's List in the past and I would never get responses from people. They were just really inconsiderate," states Schultz.
She's a stay at home mom with 2 kids and the site splits her time.
"It originally started as a hobby and it turned into full time," states Schultz.
A perk of the site is meeting new friends. She met Jamie Crandell and she now helps maintain the site. Jamie says she's given up on yard sales.
"You don't have to sit out in the cold and wait for people to come to you. Everybody and 12,000 people look at an item," states Jamie Crandell.
She found that you get higher prices than a garage sale.
"A garage sale, people expect you to pay 25 cents or 50. You can resell your item and buy something for yourself," states Crandell.
You never know what people will sell.
"I have sold baby toys, clothes, furniture. You name it I've sold it," states Schultz.
One of the oddest was a case of salsa.
"If you like salsa it's great," states Schultz.
