JOPLIN, MO.--- Students from McKinley Elementary School in Joplin visited the Spring River Christian Village. They met a group of men called the Spit and Whittle Group. The group is made up of 9 men who say they enjoy giving back to the community and their project today was building bird houses.

The founder of the group knew a bunch of men as a kid who spit tobacco and whittle on wood so the name sounded appropriate. The 4th graders say these guys are the coolest seniors they know.

"Instead of sitting around watching the lobby they're getting out and doing stuff," says Ben Smith, 4th Grader.

"I'm glad they think that, I think they're cool ten year old's," says Bill Abernathy, Cool Senior.

The guys in the Spit And Whittle Group meet once a month and they say no women are invited. They said they invited the ladies to fish once, but they declined to join.
