MILO, MO.--- Ed Apida is taking on the feat of transforming a historic church into a boarding school that will house kids in need. He is calling it New Horizons Christian School.

It will be housed in a 1884 church in Milo. The owners of the building donated it to Apida after their congregation grew too small to keep having service.

Apida has years of experience working with kids who have minor behavioral problems. He plans to renovate the church into a school house and boarding room for about 10 girls.

He also owns a home beside the church which will house a group of 10 boys. All will be ages 11 through 17. Apida says a change in environment can help kids in need succeed in life.

"None of us can save the world, none of us can do millions but if we can help a few, that's a few that will are better off," says Ed Apida, Founder of New Horizons Christian School.

Kids at New Horizons will also have bible study and a list of chores Apida says will teach them responsibility and good character. The school will staff 3 to 5 staff members.

Apida says the church still needs plumbing, foundation repair, a kitchen, and bunk beds. He hopes to open New Horizons in 6 months.
