JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin public school students received severe weather preparedness packets today. The packets are in conjunction with National Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

The bags have information like how to make a family emergency plan, a book mark with 3 short steps on how to prepare, and basic supplies you need in your emergency kit.

The packets were provided by Freeman Ozark Center. Organizers says no matter how old you are, it's important to prepare for any type of weather disaster.

"It's important for them to be aware. Their family also needs to help them, it's kind of a team effort. Nobody can do this alone, and everybody needs to know what's going on," said Courtney Bay, Freeman Ozark Center.

The elementary students received games in their packets as well, to make learning the steps more enjoyable.
