X-Games Generation

Updated: January 7, 2009
The days of seeing kids playing football in the streets and baseball in any open field are slowly evaporating, but that does not mean today`s youngsters are not athletically inclined. They are just playing different games, and there is one local company that is benefiting from the X-Games Generation. There is no question about it, these are some talented kids and with the explosion in skateboarding and in-line skating comes a new marketplace, city owned skateparks. Moss is an employee of American Ramp Company which is located in Joplin. And while the Four States might not be considered a skating Mecca, this warehouse is where some of the best skateparks in the world are constructed. Local skaters can provide references for American Ramp. The company was hired to build the park in Pittsburg last year, and with proper insurance, and a board, you can even skate in front of the corporate headquarters. So with the kids safe, they can now chase different dreams than their parents did. Instead of being the next Michael Jordan or Mickey Mantle, today`s youth are emulating Tony Hawk.
