January 29, 2005 #15 Central Missouri Puts Away Pitt State Late, 73-62 PITTSBURG -- Anna Rorvig led four Central Missouri State University players in double figures with 14 points as the 15th-ranked Jennies pulled away for a 73-62 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Jan. 29) at John Lance Arena. CMSU (18-2, 9-1 MIAA) kept itself in sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings with the win, while PSUs (13-6, 6-4 MIAA) hopes dimmed in the conference race with the loss. Janelle Klein led the Gorillas with 14 points, with 10 coming in the first half. The Gorillas, who trailed 36-30 at the break, fell behind by as many as 16 points, at 56-40, with 13:57 to play in the game. Pitt State trimmed the margin back to six points, 60-54, with 8:27 remaining, but CMSU sealed the win with a 9-0 run culminated by Becky Orendorffs 3-pointer with 4:32 to play. Ashley Millham and Lindsey Maple scored 12 apiece for the Jennies, while Orendorff chipped in with 11. Kami Scrivner and Megan Ripperton also scored in double figures for the Gorillas, with 12 and 10 points. Pitt State head coach Steve High was denied for a second time in his bid to become the outright MIAA victories leader. He remains tied with former CMSU & Missouri Southern State University mentor Scott Ballard atop the leagues coaching list with 269 wins. Courtesy: PSU Sports Information
