Black Friday Deals On Thanksgiving

watch video
JOPLIN, MO.--- There are mixed feelings about this year's Black Friday extravaganza.

"We're ready let's go. We want to shop. We're ready. We love Black Friday," states Dee Coble, Shopper.

"I think we need to have the entire day to give thanks because we don't do enough of it," states Christine Webber, Shopper.

Big box retailers are opening their doors on Thanksgiving day, competing to be the first store crowds rush in to.

"Target decided to get competitive in the retail industry and open at 9 p.m. this year," Amanda Fadness, Joplin Target Manager.

"It's actually proven that most people spend the most money at the store that they start shopping at," states Webber.

Walmart, Sears, and Toys-R-Us will be the first ones to watch customers battle it out on their sales floor. Opening time, 8 p.m. Thursday. Best Buy, and Kohl's will stick to the way things have been and open at midnight on Friday. The question, are these retailers doing away with the Black Friday tradition.

"If you have dinner over with, I'm all for it," states Coble.

"I'd rather not see them do that," states Webber.

"People are going to get up no matter what for the sales," states Fadness.

This is the first year any big retailer will open on Thanksgiving day, and managers are expecting the unexpected.

"It'll be something interesting to find out. This is new for us we opened at midnight last year and quite frankly we're all excited,"  states Fadness.

Small businesses in Joplin like Upstairs Boutique say opening at 7 the day after Thanksgiving is just fine. So for those who'd rather sleep in, shopping at the local shops might be the answer.
