Wesley House Thanksgiving Donations
PITTSBURG, KS.--- This isn't the first time John Smith has volunteered his time to help others.
"I used to do it in Topeka, too, for the Topeka Thanksgiving dinner. My mom was in charge of that, and I've been doing that since high school," states John Smith.
He does it for one simple reason.
"Because it's needed. Someone has to do it," states Smith.
Smith and the other volunteers at the Wesley House in Pittsburg spend their day helping to feed those in need. Wesley House Pastor Ellie Foster says as fast as the food comes in, it goes right back out.
"At this point, with two more days to go for sign up for Christmas, we're way beyond the number of families we helped last year," states Pastor Ellie Foster, Wesley House.
Foster says she feels blessed to be working in the Four States, where as need increases, so does the generosity of local residents.
"This community is amazing, and once they realize there's a need, somehow they come through," states Foster.
For now, the shelves appear relatively full, but Foster says with as many families as they're already planning to help this year.
"I'm estimating 900, at least," states Foster.
That will likely go fast.
"It is stressful, but we've held it together so far, and I feel like god is going to bless us and help us get through yet another season," states Foster.
