Local Pearl Harbor Veteran
GALENA, KS.-- World War II veteran, Donald Anderson says he remembers exactly what he was doing on "The day that lives in infamy." He says he was a newly wed spending time with his wife on December 7th 1941, when he learned of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, an event that drew America into the 2nd World War. Anderson recalls being drafted shortly afterward to serve in the Navy for 22 months. He says although the Pearl Harbor attack happened more than 70 years ago, it's very important to remember the historical lesson that came from it.
"People think that there's nothing that will ever happen to the United States, but that is a deadly thing because there are forces that would destroy us right now wherever we are, so we have to be alert and we have to be on guard," states Donald Anderson, World War II Veteran.
According to government records, nearly 2,400 service members and 49 civilians were killed in the Pearl Harbor attack.
