CARL JUNCTION, MO.--- Today is the beginning of the filing period for municipal and school elections in Missouri. Eligible candidates have until January 15th to register to get on the ballot for the April 2013 election. Carl Junction is one of several cities holding elections during the upcoming year. City Clerk, Mari Beth Matney says each city's criteria is different, but in Carl Junction, some basic requirements must be met to run for city council.

"On the council people, you have to be at least 21 years of age, you have to live inside the city limits within the last year, and you have to live in the ward that you are being elected," states Mari Beth Matney, Carl Junction City Clerk.

Carl Junction's elections will be unique this year in that an extra seat is vacant due to a midterm retirement.
