Vernon County's New Sheriff Begins Making Changes
NEVADA, MO.--- Jason Mosher is sifting through concealed carry permits. It's a new task he's taking on with his new role as sheriff.

He moved into this office on New Year's day and is transitioning from his former position as Jasper Police Chief.
"We've been digging into the budget most of the morning, so we're kinda jumping in right away," states Sheriff Mosher.
This week he is already beginning to tackle some of the plans he proposed when running for office.
"Hopefully in the next couple of months, we'll be able to achieve 24 hour coverage. I'm going to stay on top of it until it's done," states Sheriff Mosher.
Investigator Steve Schlup says a deputy on duty 24 hours a day would add increased safety.
"Great idea. We had one several years ago, we seemed at that time to have a lot less problems than last 3 or 4 years," states Steve Schlup, Investigator.
Another plan is to add a deputy at the county courthouse on staff during open hours.
"What that does is takes one less person off the road for things that need to be done out here in the county," states Schlup.
"Besides just a bailiff for the courts there needs to be security in the courthouse," states Sheriff Mosher.
For now, Mosher is settling into the new position, and plans to put what he proposed during his campaign into action.
"It might look like it's impossible to accomplish, but one way or the other, I'm going to make sure it's accomplished," states Sheriff Mosher.
Mosher says he's meeting with county commissioners this week to begin working out his budget. He hopes that will lead to the addition of these proposed positions.
