Oswego Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
OSWEGO -- Residents in Oswego held the city's 20th annual "Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration" at the city's community building Saturday. Community leaders spoke about the town's progression with civil rights. There were also choir performances and food for attendees. Organizers say it's important for people to keep learning about the values and precedents that Dr. King left for us.
"We're never too old to learn something new, and we need to learn something new everyday, and to learn about Dr. King and how he started out as just a plain Baptist minister and then was catapulted to national headlines," says celebration speaker Edith Triplett.
When the town first started the event, they had about 15 people present. This year, more than 90 residents showed up for the celebration.
