CARTHAGE, MO.--- Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser knows changes need to be made around his jail.
"Parking space around the jail is a little bit of a premium," states Sheriff Randee Kaiser, Jasper County.
Soon Kaiser and the sheriff's office will have more space. At today's meeting, the commission approved the purchase of the land east of the county jail.

Soon Kaiser and the sheriff's office will have more space. At today's meeting, the commission approved the purchase of the land east of the county jail.
"I've been trying to buy it ever since I got here. The city has just had trouble getting rid of it or wanting to get it cleaned up. It just hasn't happened," states Josh Bartosh, Jasper County, Presiding Commissioner.
Commissioners agreed to pay $41,000 plus closing costs to the owner of two houses on east 4th Street. The commission had appraised the land at $38,000, while the owner had originally valued it closer to $200,000.
"Finally we got it done and we're all happy about it," says Bartosh.
Sheriff Kaiser is looking forward to the added space.
"It'll benefit in that it's going to clear some space around the south and west sides as far as taking up the parking spaces there," says Sheriff Kaiser.
Once the land is cleared, Sheriff Kaiser hopes to add a secure parking lot for vehicle storage.
"My intention is that we would fence that and then gravel part of it to accommodate some parking of trailers and utility vehicles. We currently are little bit cramped for space," says Sheriff Kaiser.
Opening up more parking space for jail staff and visitors.
"It will have a little better accessibility to the jail and for the citizens that come there," says Sheriff Kaiser.
Now commissioners plan to have the houses torn down. That's not all, they'll also deal with a potential security threat. There's a tree hanging over the jail's security fence. That's also coming down.
