Joplin Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief
Each volunteer stayed an average of 21 days on assignment. Joplin Red Cross workers say the experience was very meaningful to people in this community.
"Since obviously, a lot of our volunteers went through the tornado in 2011, we sort of did have insight on how to run a disaster scenario such as that," said Chad Toland, Disaster Preparedness Assistant.
A report on the first 3 months post hurricane shows regional volunteers worked more than 25,000 hours during this time period. Their volunteer work is estimated to have saved more than $7,000 for the areas affected.
