Pittsburg State University New iPlan Tables
PITTSBURG, KS.--- A 55-inch iPlan table helps senior Seth Russell reduce the amount of measurement errors on his architectural drawings.
"You're not just looking at your notes, wondering if you got your lengths right or a square footage right, you can see it," states Seth Russell, Construction Student, PSU.
The Pittsburg State University Construction Department bought the high tech gadget in December. The goal? To help students have a competitive edge in the job market.
"It gives our students an advantage upon graduation of either stepping in and being able to use the tool immediately, or actually work for a company and help them move into the newer technology," states Bill Strenth, Construction Professor, PSU. Russell is already seeing the benefits.
"The company I signed an offer with just purchased a lot of these plan tables, so I'll be able to already have experience with it and know what's going on," says Russell.
Construction professor Bill Strenth says more construction companies are opting for the technology. "They're using iPads, iTablets, and stuff like that, and in their trailers they use an iPlan table," states Strenth.
It also allows them to go green cutting down on the amount of paper used, and not to mention the cost.
"A set of drawings can cost as much as $1,000," says Strenth.
You can zoom in, rotate and change whatever you need to with one touch, giving Russell more confidence with his work.
"Just to have a quality product for our client," says Russell.
The iPlan is currently being used in 3 classes. The price tag on this piece of equipment is $14,000. Instructors say PSU is the first university to purchase an iPlan.
