House Fire Becomes Murder Investigation
Wednesday, police found the body of Cristy Wiles inside a home in the 200 block of Lafayette Avenue.
They're now investigating the scene as aggravated arson and first degree murder.
The blaze broke out at the home a week ago.
Authorities say wiles died of smoke inhalation and was inside the home when the fire started.
At this time authorities are not saying if they have any suspects in connection to this case, but have received quite a few tips already.
"As a result of this tragic loss of any situation of this extent will absolutely be thought of will impact this community. As our investigators move forward we'll proceed with the outmost compassion and effort to bring those responsible for this crime to justice," says Chanute Director of Public Safety Sam Budreau.
Chanute authorities are working with other local, regional and state investigators so they can present the case to the neosho county prosecutor.
