Habitat Home Dedication in Girard

watch video
GIRARD -- More than a dozen friends, family and Habitat for Humanity volunteers gathered Sunday to welcome the Bass family into their new home. After two years of meeting application requirements and more than 200 hours of "sweat-equity" Charles, Barbara and their four children received a set of keys to move in. The dedication ceremony was also a first for the Crawford County Habitat for Humanity. Instead of building a home from the ground up, volunteers rehabilitated an older home to give it new life.

"It had to be basically cleaned up," says Crawford County Habitat for Humanity board president Christine Schindler. "Cabinets had to be built and put it. New appliances obviously were needed. Flooring and a lot of paint."

"Kind of a new start for our family and our kids," says Charles Bass. "Getting them into a safe home, a comfortable home, and it's really a tremendous blessing."

Habitat for Humanity volunteers are already working on their next project. They hope to begin building a Pittsburg home in May for a mother and her two children.
