Interstate 49 Signs
JOPLIN, MO.--- MODOT crews say they are wrapping up the process of putting up Interstate 49 signs, along what is currently Highway 71 between Joplin and Kansas City. The project manager says there's about 3,000 signs up. The signs currently face away from traffic and are covered with plastic. MODOT crews won't unveil them until a ceremony on December 12th.
"I-49 stretches from New Orleans to Kansas City so everybody along that whole entire corridor, we're getting ready to open 180 miles is excited about that," states Sean Matlock, Transportation, Project Manager.
The last interchange, Route TT in Northern Vernon County, opened on Monday. This was the final project crews needed to get complete in order to get the I-49 designation.
