watch video
JOPLIN, MO.--- For more than 20 years, James Seward has been putting up Christmas lights. He's an electrician and he helps people install the lights on their home.

"Common mistakes, reload their circuits, or use bad extension cords or bad Christmas lights. Then we see a potential for hazard," states Justin Peterson.

He says many people are like Clark Griswald and don't really know what they're doing.

"We do see overloads, if you do trip a braker, you've got too big a load on that braker," states Peterson.

The group installs lights on homes and businesses. The cost starts at $200.

" In these tough times there's a lot of people Christmas lights. We don't blame them we just want to make it sure a happy holiday,"states Peterson.

It's also advised to not use a staple gun. They recommend using these hooks, to attach the lights to your gutters. Justin Peterson has been installing lights for more than a decade, and he says this year has been the easiest, weather wise.

"Roofs are dry, if you don't have to worry about slipping. Definitely not cold so that makes it nice," states Peterson.

If you couldn't tell, he's not scared of heights. But there is a trick to getting up this high.

"Stay low, stay away from the edge. Make sure your a good solid surface. Not too steep," states Peterson.

You dont' want your neighbors making fun of your Christmas lights in June.

"Christmas lights are for temporary lights only. Not left up year round. They're not made to last under year round conditions," states Peterson.

With these warm temperatures, I'm sure many of you put up your Christmas lights over the weekend.
