Carthage Police and Fire Department Bell Ringer Contest

watch video
CARTHAGE, MO.--- Employees from the Carthage fire and police departments volunteered as bell ringers for the Salvation Army today at the Wal-Mart in Carthage. It's their 3rd annual event to see which department can raise the most money for the organization. The firefighters were at one end of Wal-Mart, and the police officers were at the other.

"People come in and put some money in. Sometimes they'll go to both doors just to keep the competition close, but we just simply have a lot of fun with it," states Doug Dickey, Carthage Police Sgt.

"We try to work with each other all the time with different things that we're working on, and this just gives us something else to play around with. Make a little fun out of something that's important to do," states Josh Estes, Firefighter.

The firefighters and officers volunteered from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
