Young Professionals Network in Joplin

JOPLIN, MO.--- The Young Professionals Network, or Y.P.N. was formed 5 years ago as a committee with the Joplin Chamber of Commerce. Members range in ages from 21 to 40 years old. Community leaders say their goal is to get the younger generation involved.

"It helps the young professionals advance in the community and learn about the importance of leadership," says Kirstie Smith, Joplin Chamber of Commerce.

Members meet with business leaders, network with each other, and perform a community service project each month. Today, they served meals at Souls Harbor in Joplin.

"It's especially important for the young people to get involved, just to kind of take more ownership in their own community, learn what's out there the different groups that might need help, and just become more involved," says Amanda Mitchell, Y.P.N. Chairperson.

Y.P.N. member Lindsey Hayes says helping others gives members greater awareness of what needs people have in the city.

"There's a lot of need in the area that can be fulfilled through volunteering and this is one way that we can help our young professionals learn more about the non-profit organizations in our area," says Hayes.

Y.P.N. officials say they are always looking for more people to join their organization and help the city become a better place at the same time. If people would like to get involved, click here for more information.
