Carl Junction Literary and Visual Arts Contest
CARL JUNCTION, MO.--- Kayli Conrad had never received a gold medal for anything until last year.
"It was awesome, I couldn't believe that it was my first gold medal that I had ever gotten and I felt really proud of myself," states Kayli Conrad, Last Year's First Place Winner.
She won the medal for her creativity.
"There's all sorts of awards for sports and things like that and so we want to make the students that are artistic feel important as well," states Jessica Sellers, Carl Junction Art Teacher.
A group of teachers started the Carl Junction Literary and Visual Arts Contest. It's back again for the 2nd year, and now accepting entries.
"We just felt like it would be a great way to showcase our talented students in the community and talented professionals as well, and we just wanted to build a strong art community," says Sellers.
This isn't your traditional contest. Judges don't get to see and feel your work, but rather pick a winner based on digital slides.
"More art contests are going digital, it's easy for the artists to send their work in. It's just really easy for them to download the image versus trying to bring the work in," says Sellers.
Something contestants say makes it possible for everyone to showcase their skills.
"It shows more kids a way for someone to express themselves, like somebody that you didn't know had an art ability and they are amazing can submit it and they can just tell the world, I'm amazing, I can do this," says Conrad.
Entries for the art contest are due by midnight on Thursday, January 24th. Once collected, they will be judged by a panel of local experts and the winning artwork will be published in a Carl Junction art contest magazine. For more information on how you can enter this contest, click here.
