Webb City Middle School Spelling Bee
WEBB CITY, MO.--- More than two dozen students competed in the annual Webb City Middle School Spelling Bee this morning. Administrators say the increasing presence of technology in education could effect how well students learn fundamental spelling and writing skills, and events like this keep those skills sharp.
"As a district, we are very intentional about teaching spelling, especially in the early grades as we believe it will have a positive effect on our students opportunity to learn how to read and to write," says Trey Moller, Webb City Assistant Superintendent.
6th grade student Emily Tappana was the winner. She will represent the school this spring against other Southwest Missouri Spelling All-Stars.
